Visitor Review:
South Carolina Virtual Charter School (SCVCS) is powered by K12 and available to any South Carolina resident including missionaries and military personal that are temporarily based out of SC.
The curriculum is rigorous and actually serves grades K-12. The public school includes requirements that are mandated by the state.
SCVCS requires teachers to teach live online classes through Elluminate and record the sessions to be viewed again by students who need the review and/or missed the live session due to illness, etc.
The curriculum is GREAT and the flexibility K12 provides with their mastery based instruction is ideal, but the public schools have state requirements that often conflict with the philosophies of K12.
K12 also sends a loaner computer to SCVCS who qualify for financial assistance, and SCVCS provides internet reimbursement for families who qualify. This is not a fit for everyone.
A lot of monitoring and coaching is required by parents/learning coaches.
Although it is a secular curriculum, K12 appears to have some Catholic basis. Some of the textbooks and content are basic Catholic and Christian principles.
