Discipleship Homeschool

Discipleship Homeschool is becoming a popular term that describes a philosophy of education more than a particular method. The how tos are generally eclectic; choosing the best of many homeschool methods depending on the needs in the family.
Each family member, parents included, grow in each of these areas as they live life together, taking advantage of life’s opportunities as well as planned learning.
Though there is much time and resources given to developing each child’s individual inclinations and talents the parents are responsible for the direction of education in the home.
This is not done in a pre-programmed kind of way but rather through building relationships with their children parents learn what makes their child tick and supply the best resources to encourage their growth. As the children grow older they are involved in this process as well.
There is an understanding that there is intentionality, direction and accountability with this philosophy of education; a belief that parents have the God-given right and responsibility to train and educate their children to be productive and involved citizens.
With this in mind parents plan the education of their children, based on family values and unique individual needs and talents. Along with the planned lessons, using a variety of homeschool resources, families also see learning opportunities in regular family life making opportunity to teach into their children’s lives, building knowledge, skill and character.
Such opportunities deepen the learning experience of each child, especially when they are making connections with the real world.
I believe that homeschooling is the opportunity
to have our children home,
to influence them,
to guide them and mold them.
