I was homeschooled for a portion of my tenth grade school year. I found the A BEKA books to be easy to understand and easy to learn from.
My homeschool experience was basically self-taught, so I needed a system that was not too complicated. You simply set daily “goals” for yourself, such as the number of workbook pages you will complete in each subject for the day.
Also, they suggested that the student earn at least a 70% on the final comprehension test before moving on to the next workbook. Anything less meant doing the work all over again until you understand.
I don’t know if it is still this way, but I thought it was a great idea to get the student to really pay attention and retain the information they receive. I also liked the Christian characters the use (ACE) that always offer a valuable life lesson. The cartoons were a nice break while doing school work.
The down side to the system was that they didn’t offer as many subjects as the public school system. However, that may no longer be the case.
