We have been using Time4learning for 2 years and are about to embark on our 3rd year with this wonderful program. I have tried different methods and used just about every curriculum out there, but had not found one that fit just right. Time4Learning was exactly what I was looking for. It has made home schooling so much fun!
The children complete there work without complaining at all. That’s right, no complaints!
The work is so much fun that it is not “work” to them. The best part is that not only are they learning, but they are remembering what they are learning. They will be sitting at the dinner table telling everyone about the things they have learned about that day. The online program teaches the entire lesson and even grades it!
It keeps track of attendance and grades, and allows me to print out everything to keep for my records. It is a great mix of on line learning and hands on learning. The program has “resources” that go with many of the lessons. The “resources” are worksheets, games and hands on projects that use things from around the house to complete.
It uses “stars” for each lesson in that subject. You always know that the lesson is complete because the “star” will spin when completed. You can check the children’s grades by clicking on the “backpack” in the upper left hand corner of the lesson page.
If you do not like the child’s grade you can have them re-do the lesson or work with them one on one.The program is a complete curriculum if you use everything the program offers. It has suggested reading lists of books that can be read to go along with the lessons they are learning about in Language Arts. It is also aligned with all states standards.
You are still very involved in your child’s learning. You will need to check over their work to make sure they are doing everything the program asks them to do.
It will tell them to keep a notebook of spelling words with/without definitions. It may also prompt them to write(or type)a poem or a story. This may be on the program or it may ask that they put it on notebook paper.
I have seen some reviews that didn’t think it was a complete curriculum. I realized after using the program myself that they must not have used the program fully to see that it does indeed have just about everything.
You will also need to go over the lessons ahead of time and write down how much (or how many stars)you would like them to complete in each subject. It may seem to short of a lesson to you and you may think that 1,2 or 3 stars and a quiz are not enough, but remember that they may be required to read many pages in that lesson.
This is why you need to look over their lesson ahead of time.
My only complaint is that it doesn’t go through High School, only through 8th grade.
