SCVCS Visitor Review:
K12 curriculum is great, but the way SCVCS uses it is not.
I have been at odds with SCVCS lately because of their refusal to start a 504 or iep for my now 5th grader. I have been trying to get one since 2nd grade. I kept telling teachers her SCANTRON score was not an accurate measure of her ability and that she need other help. She was having a really had time reading. I was new at the game and unaware until this year of my rights. She has sever ADHD and a newly found vision disorder, which I had to arrange testing for myself. They have refused to have her tested because she was not failing enough subjects, It took her not meeting PASS standards for 2 years and a finally accurate SCANTRON test to get attention from an intervention team. Still no talk of testing for IEP or 504. Only that her grade in the other core subjects are good and she is only failing reading. When I pushed the issue, they claimed I must be helping her in the other subjects. I only got out of the whole thing that she is not meeting OLS progress percents, and they believe that we are not trying suggested intervention. They do not see it as the interventions are not working. I was told she better step it up or she wont be able to come back next year. I have already planned on sending her to our local brick and mortar school for next year after speaking with their Special education director. But I am afraid this has caused issues with my other daughter who does have an IEP.
