I have used Bob Jones University (BJU) math curriculum for the last six years with many of my private tutoring students including those who attend private or public school and those who are home schooled. Overall, my experience with BJU is favorable. First of all, it is one of the cheapest math books available for the home schools or Christian schools. Also, the books have pleasant pictures, good organization of contents, and has a nice presentation.
In terms of explaining the math concepts, I definitely like the way BJU does it. In each lesson, the first part explains how to solve problems with few examples. Then, the practice problems are given in order of difficulty so that the students are able to learn as they do the practice problems.
The only issues I have had with BJU was that it sometimes does not include topics that a public school textbook would include. For example, the Advanced Algebra and Pre-Calculus book does not teach anything about matrices, although this is an important topic. Other that this, I’ve had a favorable experience using the BJU math homeschool curriculum texts.
