I am actually a student in the K12 Homeschool high school program. I have been with Georgia Cyber Academy since it started in 2007. We loved the regular program for middle school and were excited when the state approved for the high school version.
After I started I started falling behind quickly. I was a straight A student until high school.
1. Too many subjects
1. Algebra
2. GUM: Vocabulary
3. GUM: Grammar, Usage and Mechanics.
4. GUM: Literature
5. Spanish 1
6. Web Design
7. Health
8. PE
9. Homeroom
10. Biology
Now along with all of these they require you have to spend 60 minutes in EACH subject which rounds up to 8 hours (not including homeroom). Not only that but there are “Class Connects” for every subject every day that are like real live lessons that are an hour long. Now, please explain to me how to do 7, hour long classes AND do 8 hours of school work off screen?
Also I am currently working in a movie where I am in a lead role. I am big into acting in movies, one reason I am home schooled, so that I could work on my own pace. But they require you to be done and on grade with an A in every subject by the date regular students are done rather than an your own pace. I find myself staying up ’til midnight trying to catch up. I also take dance classes every single day from 4-9 plus on the weekend for up to 10 hours, plus with the movie shooting every week I find myself completely worn out and stressed. I was a straight A student and now I have a 84 in Lit area’s 89 in Bio, a 64 in math, a 12 in Spanish and 10 in web design just to name a few. I have to be up to a 85 in a matter of a month or two or I will be considered to fail. The only reason I am staying is because to get my license I have to have the school paper work from the whole year and I can’t get it at the school I will be moving to.
I would not wish such torture that k12 High School has to offer to anyone!
