We started using Horizons with our oldest in 2007 when she was in first grade. Although she has a solid grasp of math concepts, actually completing mathematical work is a challenge for her.
The colors and occasional fun assignments have helped us both work through that challenge and have also prevented her from growing to hate mathematics.
She is now in third grade and continues to make solid progress. Although she occasionally needs to slow down on the work a bit, she has never fallen behind or been unable to grasp a concept, usually with the first teaching.
Meanwhile, our second child is a bit of a mathematical whiz. I have been so excited to discover that it is just as easy to move quickly through it as it is to take a slow and steady pace.
I can monitor her progress with confidence, knowing that if indications of trouble areas arise, I can work with her on those concepts and be assured that they will come back up again soon.
Both girls have already poured through their new books for 2nd and 4th grade, and can’t wait to start them this fall!
