Calvert was really nice, it was very well put together. It came with a guide for student, parent, as well as textbooks, workbooks, and answer keys. Since the system was originally a correspondence course it even came with paper and pencils!
The subject matter was beyond the equivalent material in the public schools, which, really, was a good thing.
The program was even written for the student, as a parent all I really had to do was supervise and grade her work. However, for an extra fee, the system could be used in its original capacity as a correspondence course via snail mail or the internet. But that’s not a feature I sprung for so I can’t vouch for its quality- it just sounds like a good idea.
Overall, Calvert is an exceptional homeschooling method provided your child likes to work independently. We definitely would have continued if the program had had levels higher than grade eight. The main downside was price, but then all of these programs are pretty expensive.
