Although we have used Alpha Omega Switched on Schoolhouse for several years, we decided to try Monarch online homeschooling classes for one of my daughter’s high school requirements. She is required by the state to have at least one online class to earn a high school diploma so this health class will actually satisfy two requirements.
It is very similar to Switched on Schoolhouse because the parent has a login and so does the child. They also have their own separate set up options to customize the colors and screens to fit their preferences.
One of the things I liked right away about the program is that I can check her progress, adjust the calendar or complete grading tasks from ANY computer. With Switched on Schoolhouse, I did not have that option.
It is also very easy to use. I can see how much time that she spent on the subject and even print off a report card or daily attendance reports if I needed to.
The only two downside to it compared to Switched on Schoolhouse are:
1. You must have an internet connection to do the work (which makes taking the computer on longer car trips less feasible.)
2. It is a one-time-use product so it cannot be passed down to siblings in the future like SOS can.
However, overall it has lived up my expectations and, in my opinion, is another great option from Alpha Omega.
I am especially pleased that we were able to satisfy the state requirements this way. I would recommend it to anyone who has to fill these requirements too.
