I am a third grade elementary teacher. I wanted to home school my children for at least their elementary grades and hopefully beyond.
As a trained educator, the Abeka curriculum was what I considered the best traditional curriculum for home school students. The material has great teacher editions and supplemental materials.
Even without a teaching certificate, Abeka makes this material user friendly. It’s ease of use leads to a greater teaching confidence.
The history portion is terrific. It is so much better than what we offer in the public school system. It is a genuine account.
The readers are engaging and bring about further reading to learn capabilities.
My only trouble came with the math curriculum. I felt like I had to slow it down in some concepts and speed up through others. It is important to get through the entire curriculum and remain on pace with the grade level. I also supplemented with more manipulatives than the material called for.
Unfortunately due to my husband’s health, I had to go back to teaching full-time in a local public school. My children have done remarkably well. Their teachers are always asking me what curriculum I used.
In the public school setting, we are mandated on the curriculum we teach but whenever feasible I put in some of the great concepts I learned from teaching Abeka.
